Hi! I'm Helena.

I'm a freelance Director, Cinematographer, and FAA-certified drone operator based in Denver, CO and ready to travel.

I've directed and shot films for Google, The North Face, BBC, The Kellogg Foundation, Hoka, and Novartis in on-location destinations from the middle of the Pacific Ocean to the far reaches of the Arctic Circle. My work has been screened at Oscar-qualifying festivals including Chicago International, BeyondFest, Tasveer, No Man's Land, ISAFF and Raveena.

I approach every project with excitement, intentionality, and curiosity, eager to engineer the best unique ways to bring it to life. I believe that the majority of good directing and cinematography work happens well before we walk onto set. That's why I'm always excited to spend lots of pre-pro time with my team planning, designing, and scheduling every intricate detail of the film to ensure it's the best possible rendition of the story.

I love creating fresh ways to capture images, tell stories, and move people.

I have a bachelor's degree in Film Production, Communications, and Media Studies from Grinnell College and I studied 16 and 35mm Cinematography at the Film and Television Academy at the School of Performing Arts in Prague and Directing at the Film and Television School in London. I'm a 2020 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship recipient.

My favorite projects are those that tell stories not often told. I'm deeply committed to creating safe sets and uplifting marginalized voices. I believe that all media should be created with rigorous intentionality.
